LETTER TO THE SCC MEMBERS

Dear members of the Chamber,

Respectable businessmen,

The Serbian Chamber of Commerce continues and fosters 152 long tradition of business association in  Serbia. The leading and most important business association in the country based on the law gathers over 100 000 companies and 200 000 entrepreneurs. The Chamber is the service of the economy of Serbia and trustee and promoter of its interests and operates in accordance to the Law on Chambers of Commerce ("Official Gazette of RS", No 65/01) and the Statute of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce ("Official Gazette of RS", No 45/02, 107/03 and 44/05).

The chamber system in Serbia encompasses provincial Chambers of Commerce of Vojvodina and Kosovo and Metohia, Belgrade Chamber of Commerce and 16 regional chambers of commerce, with their head offices in Valjevo, Zaječar, Zrenjanjin, Kikinda, Kragujevac, Kraljevo, Kruševac, Leskovac, Niš, Novi Sad, Pančevo, Požarevac, Sombor, Sremska Mitrovica, Subotica and Užice. The long-term aim of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce are stable and competitive economy, improvement of business and investment environment, higher living standards of its citizens and development of Serbia.

As the support to the economy of Serbia to increase the export value and foreign direct investments, the Chamber develops its business cooperation through its representative offices located in 10 countries that are at the same time the most important partners of Serbia-Russian Federation, Germany, Austria, France, Belgium, Italy, Bulgaria, Rumania, Ukraine and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Serbian Chamber of Commerce has signed 55 bilateral agreements with the chambers of commerce from 35 countries worldwide. It is a member of the International Chamber of Commerce from Paris, Association of European Chambers-Eurochambres, ASCAME and ABC as well as regional initiatives: CEI/CECCI, BSEC and the Danube initiative.

ACTIVITIES

Representing its members’ interests

Representing and protection of interests of its members before the state bodies and institutions, in the field of economic system, development and economic policies.

Public powers

Issuing of 58 documents based on public powers stipulated in the law: certificates supporting goods in import/export (Form-A, END-USER certificates, etc), freight forwarding certificates FIATA, TIR and ATA carnets, certificates of financial standing and other.

Promotion of the economy

Promotion of the Serbian economy in the country and abroad by organizing participation in fairs and exhibitions and through other forms of communication.

Business information

Dissemination of timely and high quality information to its members and other interested parties on current economic trends, business environment, drafting of regulations, business standards, and new technologies, and also the information from the Chamber’s database.

Improvement of international economic relations

It provides information to its members in order to find business partners abroad and connects them; improves bilateral and multilateral relations.

Consulting services

It provides and organizes professional assistance to its members: legal consulting in implementation of the regulations (status law, labor law, foreign trade and foreign exchange operations, customs tariffs, tax system), consulting in quality management system, making web presentations, introduction and protection of innovations, setting up business.

Business training

It organizes lectures, professional seminars, specialized courses and other forms of training aimed at continuous improvement of professional competences and business skills of employees.

Fostering good business practices and business ethics

It establishes and promotes the rules of good business conduct and adopts relevant codes (Business Ethics Code, Corporate Governance Code, etc.), published at the Official Gazette of RS, No 1/06.

Courts and the Court of Arbitration at the SCC

Court of Honor, as an independent and autonomous body, makes decisions in the procedure against business entities for breach of good business practices and ethical rules. Permanent Elected Court (Arbitration), as an independent and autonomous body, makes decisions on resolution of commercial disputes between the Chamber members, based on their previous or subsequent agreement to accept its jurisdiction.

The arbitral decision is final and binding as the final ruling of the court of law.

Foreign Trade Court of Arbitration is an independent and autonomous body for conciliation and settlement of disputes arising out of international business relations, in cases under its authority.

We remind you that Decision on setting up the membership fee paid to the Serbian Chamber of Commerce for 2009 was published at the Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia, No 1/09. The membership fee you should pay is symbolic if compared to the benefits you may have through this association. Paying the membership fee you are available to use all services the Serbian Chamber of Commerce provides for and have all membership rights as equal as the Chamber members.

The Serbian Chamber of Commerce represents and protects the interests of the economy of Serbia and supports business operation. Do have confidence in your Chamber. Do use all your membership advantages the Serbian Chamber of Commerce provides for and to realise all your rights.
